Thanksgiving Weekend in NYC, 2011

Wednesday, 23rd

Charlie by the Rose Planetarium where he gave a talk last month

About 3pm and they're blowing up the balloons for tomorrow's parade

No nonsense eye bolt driven into the curb to hold balloon down

Several trucks like this on hand for helium

Excellent performance in the evening

Thursday, 24th

Huge crowds everywhere along parade route

Thought David would like this one

This one's for Jarrett

Parade was over by 11am at Columbus Circle
Walking back to our room, we recognized the sculptures by Boaz Vaadia because of our visit to the Jim Kempner Gallery in October.

Watched the parade end in mid town after we got back to our room

We spent the afternoon in Central Park finding paths we've never been on.
After a turkey dinner at the Brasserie, we enjoyed "Godspell" in a theater in the round.

Friday, 25th
Metropolitan Museum of Natural History

Butterfly collection

Wings closed

Wings open

Drinking orange juice

My personal butterfly

The guide told us this was a mosaic and that it has six legs, the same as bugs.

In "Beyond Planet Earth" we studied Curiosity which was launched the next morning

In the evening we enjoyed the pre-concert talk and performance of the NY Philharmonic

Saturday, 26th
Our 51st wedding anniversary

Charlie bought this romantic punching balloon
in honor of out wedding anniversary

We passed it on to this delighted little girl

They looked like performers exercising

Awesome performers were everywhere

This one "walked" down the stairs  on his hands

Trump ice skating rink was popular
